Moving Image in China:1988-2011
Moving Image in China 1988-2011 offers a well-constructed and complete retrospective of the history of video art and the new media in the contemporary Chinese panorama. While in the West almost fifty years have passed since video art made its first appearance, in China this expressive form has only appeared in the last twenty years or so, fighting a decisive battle in the evolution of contemporary artistic languages. The exhaustive essays by important critics and Chinese curators and the over forty works in the catalogue testify to the tenacity of the artists in this field, which constitutes the visual record of a period, tumultuous but dynamic, of the development and changes in the art, society, philosophy and economy of the great Asian country.
